Our Life In Pictures
Six years ago, this sweet boy was finishing first grade and getting his Tiger Cub badge. In just a few months, he’ll be starting his last year of middle school. How can it be?!
Tonight, my stand-out, award-winning school district awarded me (and several other amazing educators) with tenure. It’s something I’ve worked really hard for, and a professional accomplishment that almost didn’t happen. Five years ago, I almost left the teaching profession after suffering under toxic leadership for two years. I was ready to do anything but continue teaching. And then I met @courtnaygveazey and @faulkdogg at Treadwell Middle and their passion for students in our city convinced me to keep on keepin’ on. I’m thankful to all of the people who have walked alongside me and shepherded me over these past nine years in this calling. Here’s to many more years of pouring my heart and soul into our nation’s future! (And a huge thank you to my Momma and Daddy and this handsome man right here for being my biggest cheerleaders through it all!) #teachersofinstagram #teachersfollowteachers
Wood and woods for miles and miles. Happy place. 😍 #cranglehall #getoutside #getoutdoors
Love my city and experiencing new things with Charlie. Yesterday was our very first time at #memphisbbqfest even though we both have lived here nearly our whole lives. Lots of fun and check out that view! 😍 #choose901
Curly hair, don’t care.
A year ago today, we celebrated this beauty’s graduation from high school. Such a special season of life that was. We miss you with our whole hearts, Ems!
Our first time here and @wolfriverbrisket showed out! Coming from a Memphis BBQ girl, that’s some pretty high praise. #choose901 #memphiseats
Storm comin’ through in our big backyard. #cranglehall #country #getoutside
Beyond thankful for this amazing kid right here and how hard he’s worked at band all year. He was awarded Excellent at Solo & Ensemble as a 6th grader for a tuba solo and also received the Band Service Award for his flexibility and willingness to try a new instrument in the middle of the year. We are so proud of you, Luke William! 💜 And a huge shout out to his mentor, Mr. Spencer Nesvick. Without your leadership and commitment to our students at HMS, this would not have been our experience this year. Luke came into the band program with little to no musical training and has killed it this year. Not only that, he’s learned how to commit himself to something, how to face frustration and risk failure to achieve something great. All our thanks to you, Spencer, for what you do every day for Luke and all of the other band students at HMS. You are the real deal! #ctfamtakes2019
I’ve been slowly making my way through this book, and it is really everything that I’ve been needing right now. “Rising strong after a fall is how we cultivate wholeheartedness. This process teaches us the most about who we are.” A “fall” is I literally what I have been living for the past three years. My understanding of myself has been rocked to my core in ways I didn’t know were possible. Over the past few months, I’ve come to such a deeper understanding of myself and where I tend to - unwisely - find my value. And from here is where I rise. #risingstrong #thankful #growth #wholehearted
These woods go for miles and miles and miles. Thankful to drive country roads home and walk outside to this quiet, peaceful place every afternoon. So good for my soul when the weight of life’s responsibilities feels crushing. Deep breaths. 💜
I wanna share a little secret with y’all... This little bottle makes my life so much easier. Vitality oils pack a huge punch of flavor and are so much more convenient. Plus, because of YL’s Seed to Seal promise, I am confident that all my family is consuming is literal drops of plant juice distilled straight from the plant itself and nothing more. Tonight, I’m using Lemon Vitality in my homemade tzatziki sauce, on baked salmon, and spritzed to finish this sautéed asparagus. This method is seriously inexpensive... just $6.25 a bottle and in each 5ml bottle you’ll get the flavor and antioxidant power of about 45 lemons. YEP. Call me crazy if you want, but when it comes to simplifying things in the kitchen, you’ll get a ‘yes’ from me every time!
The table is set to celebrate my sweet Momma at #cranglehall today! Behind the scenes, we also have Toll House pie and ice cream, rolls, and raspberry chipotle cream cheese appetizer. Thankful for time with my sweet family and a day to remember and honor and celebrate all of the important mother figures in our lives. 💜 #ctfamtakes2019
One of the only pictures I kept from my first wedding, this one I held onto to remind me of what a mother does. My parents were very hesitant (understatement) of my decision to get married at 21 years old. But they walked with me through that choice, celebrated with me, helped me navigate the marriage as best they could, and then seven years later helped me find my freedom and pick up the pieces and mend my heart and life back together again. And this is what a mother does, I’m seeing. She walks with those she loves, supporting and guiding, caring for their hearts, sometimes sacrificing her own needs, all without strings attached or expectations of receiving the same in return. Thank you, Mommy, for being all of this and more for me my whole life. I simply wouldn’t be the person I am today without your love and influence. Today, I celebrate you! And to all the mothering hearts out there, those who live these things out in your daily life as a non-traditional mama to the people around you, I want you to know that I see you and am thankful for the magic you bring to the lives of your loved ones. 💕
Your girl is celebrating a 2.6 lb. weight loss for the week and some important growth in self-care. Boring self-care like eating breakfast and buying a new makeup mirror and blow drier to replace one that was about ten years old. 💜
